As most of you are probably aware, "Wonder Woman" is an American superhero movie based on DC comics. The movie is directed by Patty Jenkins and stars, Robin Wright, Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Danny Huston, Connie Nielsen, David Thewlis and Elena Anaya. Although the film was first developed in 1996, Jenkins came on board as the director in 2015. She then became the first female director of a DC comic’s superhero movie. The film was largely praised for its direction, musical score and action sequences. A sequel to the film, wonder woman 2, will be released on 13th December 2019, according to Warner Bros.
The movie describes the life of Princess Diana who was raised up in Themyscira, an island off the Amazon forest. The island is home to warrior women whose main purpose is to protect mankind. It is on this small island that she helps rescue an American pilot who crashes his plane on the offshores of the island. The pilot then tells the people of the Amazon about the advancing world war after which she sets off to end the conflict, and in the process becomes wonder woman.
"She's Wonder Woman. She's got to come to America. It's time."Jenkins
Ever since Diana was a child, she wanted to train and become a fighter like the rest of her people. Her mother, Queen Hippolyta tells Diana the history of the Amazon people, and how her Ares, her half-sister wanted to destroy mankind due to jealousy. While in modern day Paris, Princess Diana is prompted to remember her past when she is presented a photographic plate showing her role in World War 1.
Many fans demanded to know if the first ever "Wonder Woman" film will have a sequel given the huge hit it was since the first screening. The president of Warner Bros, Toby Emmerich said in an interview that "Wonder Woman 2" will not take place in World War 1 like the initial one, but will most probably be set in the past.
“The greatest thing about making this movie was the fact that you’re really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie”.Patty Jenkins
Jenkins is seen to hold the upper hand in the deal-making for the direction of "Wonder Woman 2". The sequel will feature Gal Gadot as Diana Prince in Justice League which is set to be released in November and is a team up of DC comic’s superheroes including "Batman", "The Flash", "Cyborg" and "Aquaman". Jenkins is coming up with ideas fast for the "Wonder Woman" in the upcoming sequel and talks of "Wonder Woman" saying that she needs to come back to the U.S.
The "Wonder Woman" film surpassed the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" to become the hottest hit of the summer grossing $389.7 million domestically. The film has held stronger in North America than any other superhero movie in 15 years. The film was quite a smash when it debuted on box office and has set many records since. Gal Gadot is very young and is seen as a favorite by many when it comes to "Wonder Woman" because she can stay in the role for a few more years to come compared to "Batman’s" Ben Affleck who is almost aging out. This means that DC comics has enough time to come up with a concrete story that will solidify the footing of "Wonder Woman" as the favorite superhero film.
