Game of Thrones episode 2 kept us on the edge one more time

There is no doubt that the writers of "Game of Thrones" are under a lot of pressure to deliver this season. This eagerly anticipated season has been spoken about at the water cooler in many offices ever since the last one ended. People around the world were glued to their TV for the first episode of the new season – and according to the "Game of Thrones" reviews, it certainly delivered! Could the second episode of season seven continue to live up to the high expectations?

Did It Live Up to the Expectations

She needs to be more than the by-product of her crafty mentor.

Many of the "Game of Thrones" reviews focused on the fact that the latest episode included the first romantic sex scene since 2013. "Game of Thrones" has been known for its focus on erotica throughout its run but over recent years the intimate scenes have been more than a little twisted! The scene between Grey Worm and Missandei was fairly embarrassing at times due to the clunky choice of words but I think most viewers were glad to see them get together.
However, there was a lot more to this episode than just a sex scene. The episode starts with a giant thunderstorm, which is certainly a dramatic way to open the show! Daenerys is not in a great mood for a few reasons and this leads to an argument with Varys about the kings he's served and his assassination plot on her in season 1. As the argument developed, Daenerys plays the dragon card by threatening "if you ever betray me, I'll burn you alive.”

With Daenerys now in Westeros, both sides are quickly plotting the best ways to win.

After this, Melisandra arrives and speaks about the prophecy of Azor Ahai which says that the prince will bring about the dawn. She explains that the “prince” in the prophecy could actually refer to a prince or a princess. Daenerys decides to summon Jon Snow to Winterfell to “bend the knee” - which leads to a cut of Jon reading the letter and considering whether getting involved with a woman with dragons is a good idea or not. You have to wonder just how great the postal service in Winterfell is to get the letter across so quickly. Jon decides that he should visit Winterfell but faces a lot of opposition from the Northern lords.

“Incompetence should not be rewarded with blind loyalty. As long as I have my eyes, I’ll use them.”

The episode also focuses on Arya Stark who learns that the Bolton's are now dead and that Jon Snow is now King of the North. As she sets off to join her family she finds herself confronted by the wolves and is reunited with Nymeria – who has grown! But Nymeria does not rejoin Arya but stays with the wolves – this story is sure to continue throughout the season.
As you can tell, a lot happens in this episode and it does seem all over the place at times. But the stories are developing nicely and it certainly lived up to the kind of expectations that people had in the end. It just took a lot of time to get there!

“If you ever betray me, I’ll burn you alive”

What's Next?
The trailer for the next episode teases a meeting between Jon and Daenerys as well as a very exciting battle sequence in the battle of Casterly Rock. I'm sure the Game of Thrones reviews for this episode will focus on whether this battle sequence lives up to the great battle sequences of the past. It is looking very likely that there will be an untimely death in next weeks episode, the question is – whose will it be?
