Penelope Cruz Cast as Donatella Versace in 'American Crime Story'

According to 'Esquire' magazine, this woman has been named the sexiest woman alive in 2014 and when you are producing a TV series, and you need a queen, well it is pretty obvious that you will choose someone like Penelope Cruz. There were rumors about how Lady Gaga will be Donatella Versace in the third season of 'American Crime Story'.

When show creator Ryan Murphy asked by 'Variety' he said that casting Gaga as Donatella was never even really a discussion

Maybe because of her platinum hair (and some other physical similarities?) or maybe because she was already working with Ryan Murphy on the 'American Horror Story'. Luckily for our dear Penelope, Ryan chose her instead of the blond, extravagant queen aka Lady Gaga. Allegedly because Lady Gaga will be very busy this next year, and the show demands a lot of commitment.

Before we embark in all that crime stuff, let's make brief retrospective about the life of this amazing actress, Penelope Cruz. It will be brief because, unfortunately (for all of us who are more than inquisitive), she is a very private person. Penelope Cruz Sanchez was born on 28 April 1974 in Alcobendas, Madrid and she was the third child of her parents Encarna Sánchez and Eduardo Cruz.

Penelope Cruz became the first Spanish actress to win Academy Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress for the film, ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ (2008). Also, she is the first Spanish actress to be presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2011)

At first, she chose to study classical ballet at Spain's National Conservatory - that's where all the grace came from. In her early teenage years, she did casting calls, but she was denied, because, according to her agent, she was too young. Finally in 1989, when she was 15, she won an audition at a talent agency for the very first time, and that was the beginning of her early work. The breakthrough point came in 2000, when she starred in the 'Vanilla Sky' and 'Blow' movies, but the worldwide recognition came between 2006 and 2009 when she got roles in movies such as 'Bandidas' with her friend Salma Hayek, 'Manolete', 'The Dying Animal', 'G-Force' and many others.

Unfortunately, her relationship with Tom Cruise ended 2004. after three years, but fortunately, today she is happily married to Javier Bardem, Spanish actor as well, and they have two children.

'American Crime Story' is American TV series according to true crime stories and each season is mini series for itself. The third season, 'Versace-American Crime Story' will explore the murder of the legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace. It will take us back in July 1997 when Andrew Cunanan killed Gianni in front of his mansion in Miami and then killed himself too, just a few days later. Penelope will star Donatella Versace, Gianni's sister who took the company after his death. The whole story is based on the 'Vulgar Favors', the book by Maureen Orth, American journalist and a special correspondent for 'Vanity Fair' magazine.

One of the goals of this season is to remind us of some events that happened, to tell the details and show us some new aspects. Among other things, it will show us how some extraordinary people can be just ordinary and also the victims of some unfortunate and tragic events - even when they are (were) living easygoing life, in the mansion with 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and a pool lined with 24-karat gold. It is announced that filming will begin very next month, but the premiere of this season isn't expected til next year. So, patience, my friends - because 'All good things come to those who wait!'.
