Mila Kunis speaks out about sexism and gender inequality in Hollywood

Rising star actress Mila Kunis, commonly known for her roles in box office hits such as 'Ted', 'Friends With Benefits' and the recent 'Bad Moms' is in the spotlight this week after she publicly revealed that an unnamed producer made a threat to end her acting career when she declined to pose half-naked in order to promote a movie.

Kunis claimed that the unnamed producer blatantly said to her, 'You will never work here again' after her refusal to take part in a photo-shoot that was intended to promote a movie. 'And guess what?', Kunis added, 'The world did not end. The film was a hit and I still work here again and again'. Kunis then proceeded to write an open letter that was published on a website co-founded by Ashton Kutcher, her husband, known as 'A-Plus'.

In the letter, she said she felt very objectified and livid after that incident and expressed her opinions concerning sexism and gender inequality in the working environment. In the letter, she stated, 'All through my career, I have encountered various moments where I have been paid less, sidelined, ignored creatively, insulted and otherwise completely dismissed based solely on my gender. I got it in my head that in order for a woman to be successful in the film business; I had to follow the rules set by the men's' club. But the more I continued to work in the film business, the more the realization came to me that playing by the men's rules is complete bullshit! And even worse, I was also complicit in it by letting it happen in the first place'. The letter also cited a study which revealed that the difference in pay between men and women is closing in at an extremely slow rate that it will be over 100 years before women are actually paid equally to men in the workplace. 'And this pay gap is only one clear quantification of how the contributions of women are undervalued in the workplace', said Kunis.

Kunis, now 33 years old, stated a similar incident involving sexism and inequality whereby after forming a production organization with three other women, a very influential male producer went on to describe her as 'soon to be the wife of Ashton and baby momma' during a discussion concerning a work project. She then went on to say that this statement from the man reduced her worth to nothing more than her relationship with her successful man and her ability as a woman to bear children. 'It completely ignored the positive logistical and creative contributions from me and my team and we eventually lost interest on the project', Kunis stated.

The 'Bad Moms' star then said that she now vows to stand up against any and all comments involving sexism stating, 'I am done compromising and being compromised. So henceforth, whenever I come across one of such comments, whether it's subtle or openly, I will deal with them immediately. I will make sure that I stop the moment it arises and do what I can to educate. If it can happen to me, then it's definitely happening in a more aggressive way to women everywhere'.

Kutcher and Kunis married last year in July and are soon going to have a second child, their first one being Wyatt Isabelle, who was born in October 2014.
