Fun facts about Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard is the most successful French actress, an environmentalist a songwriter as well as a singer. Here we will look briefly into the life of the actress and also some of the most interesting fun facts. She grew up in Orleans and moved to Paris at the age of 16. Her parents were also actors and very loving but Marion spent her childhood life as if something was missing. This went on until she found her chance in the drama class, from which her life changed and felt good about herself.

Marion was never noticed by the Americans not until she won the best Actress Oscar as she performed as Edith Piaf in 'La Vie en Rose' French film. The only other person who won the Oscar in a different language film was Sophia Loren.

Marion Cotillard was actually chosen to portray the French singer, Edith Piaf, in the film 'La Vie en Rose' by director Olivier Dahan before he even knew or met her. He claimed that he had noted a similarity between Marion’s and Piaf’s eyes.

When Marion was unable to attend the Czech lion Award ceremony in Prague due to the filming of public enemies, her friend who played the journalist, Pavlina Nemcova, in the same film of 'La Vie en Rose' was there and ready to accept the reward on her behalf.

Cotillard is the ambassador of Association Wayanga, which is a French association supporting the indigenous people’s preservation of their cultures, the Amazon forest a place they inhabit and their rights. She is also the patron of Maud Fontenoy organization that is a non-governmental organization helping children in knowing how to preserve the oceans.

A French actor Julien Rassam was in a relationship with Marion Cotillard in the late 90’s. She was in a relationship with a French actor Stephan Tillie from 2000 to 2005 and eventually dated Sinclair, a French singer from 2005 to 2007. Since 2007, Cotillard has been dating with Guillaume Canet, a French director, and actor.Cotillard denied being married to Canet in 2014 and hence the popular belief that they are not married. She refers him as her boyfriend. Marion gave birth to her son Marcel in Paris (19 May 2011). Unlike many people assume, her son's name is not an homage to Édith Piaf's lover, Marcel Cerdan. Cotillard later revealed that his name is actually an homage to a member of her family, Marcel Theillaud. The interesting fact is that Marion was six months pregnant when she completed filming on 'Contagion' (2011)

Marion is an ecologist, member and Spokesperson for Greenpeace since 2002 and took only one month to learn how to sing for her role in the 2001 film,  as Marie, '_Les Jolies Chose_s' ('Pretty Things').

Marion recorded a song by the name, Happy Crowd, in 2010 with Yodelice, a French band as well as sang some songs on their album ,Cardioid. She also used her grandmother’s name,Simone, as a pseudonym to tour different cities in Belgium and France with the same band.

Marion together with her nine co-stars appeared on the cover of the November 2009 Vogue issue but appeared alone on the cover of the July 2010.

Cotillard was awarded an award for being the most promising Actress in her performances. Her mother, Niseema Theillaud is a drama teacher and also an actress. Her father, Jean-Claud is a teacher,former mime, the 2006 Moliere Award director winner and also an actor.  Also, she has two younger brothers: Guillaume and Quentin, they are identical twins (born on 6 November 1977). Guillaume Cotillard is a screenwriter and director and Quentin Cotillard works as a sculptor, living in San Francisco, California with his wife Elaine O'Malley Cotillard. This shows that acting is in the blood of Marion.

At this time Marion is pregnant with her second child and starring in a new film 'Allied' with Brad Pitt.
