Why X-Men Apocalypse is a must see

Lets be honest, the kid in you is saying X-Men Apocalypse is going to be great. You want to be excited about it. Don’t worry you are not alone. I couldn’t agree more. I decided from the moment I saw the trailer that this was Gold-class worthy and would, quite likely, require a second trip to the movies.

But lets get this straight. I am a realist. I know the likelihood of X-Men Apocalypse being an all-time classic is incredibly low. That doesn’t mean the movie wont make for captivating viewing. But you are well within your right to ask, is X-Men Apocalypse worth your time?

Part of me wants to pour cold water over your face and say ”Hell yes”- but let me put down the bucket and tell you why X-Men Apocalypse is worth your time (and money).

Get ready for some cheese (oh yeah!!!!)

That’s right. You know this movie is going to give you some heart-wrenching moment. You know its not going to be that dreadful cheese, the type you would have to stomach in a Pierce Brosnan movie. No, this is going to be your classic incredibly evil villain with all the power in the world vs. underdog good guys.

I certainly like a bit of cheese in my X-Men movies. The rise of the super-mutant Apocalypse who wants to end the world (what a surprise?) is a great inclusion to the series. On top of that, you have a young Jean and Scott struggling to gain control over their powers.

What I also like is the fact that each character is shown to be struggling internally. The more you display the to and froing of characters and develop them emotionally throughout the movie, the greater it is when they face adversity and are challenged. Oh, and of course when they survive the Apocalypse’s wrath!

Rebel mutant group led by…Mystique?

Huh! I know! But your probably only thinking that because in the previous X-Men series Mystique was so evil. In this series, you can’t help but have a soft spot for Mystique (yes, it’s probably because is Jennifer Lawrence). By freeing Nightcrawler and Angel from that Dungeon I feel Mystique proves that she knows her place in this world, and that is something you can certainly respect.

It’s totally endearing that Mystique questions herself. She really makes me want to just grab her and shake her! She is just a burgeoning leader and you know she understands her species and the difficulties mutants have faced.

When I ask myself if a movie was worth seeing, particularly one like X-Men: Apocalypse, I usually go back to “was there enough in it to keep me engaged?”

Well, again I have to come back to the characters. I mean we know that Bryan Singer is great at developing characters but this is just on a next level for me; something rarely seen in other comic movies if you ask me.

Throw in some FBI character, the ongoing battle between the ears for Magneto and Xavier, a trip to Egypt and a collapsing Pyramid, and you have yourself a movie well worth seeing in X-Men Apocalypse.
