Creative Control Film - Trailer is Out

Directed by Benjamin and written by Micah Bloomberg and Benjamin Dickinson, the Sci-fi film Creative control was snatched from the 2015 SXSW Film Festival by Amazon Studios and Magnolia. The trailer for the film is already out and there is a strange supporting performance from Reggie Watts. The star features as a fellow who appears in David’s real life and digital world. Despite that, the whole film is a little less manic and filled with melancholy.

Creative Contol films setting is in New York City though it uses canny bits of set designs to make it look like it took place in the near future. The soundtrack is of classical music with a story about a company that invents reality glasses. The advances in technology and communication devices meant to increase connectivity in order to do away with boredom tend to be increasing the anxiety of the people in this city.

The film stars Dickinson, Reggie Watts, Dan Hill, and Nora Zehetner. David, who is also the director and writer of the film, acts as an overworked executive for a sterile advertisement agency who is out to develop a high profile marketing campaign for their new invention, a new generation of Argumented Reality Glasses. He gets to rise to a point above his young colleagues and is able to have some creative control over this product which he is assigned to market.

The Argumenta are a pair of glasses that allow him to email and even create avatars. He is stuck between his relationships with Juliette, who is also his Yoga teacher. On the other hand, he envies the life of Wim, a fashion photographer who is also his best friend, and his girlfriend Sophie. He, therefore, decides to use the glasses to developing a life-like avatar of Sophie but soon things begin to get out of hand. As things begin not to go as well as he had hoped, the friends are forced to deal with the unintended collisions in their lives.

The film employs the talent of Adam Newport-Berra who does the films black and white production with super digital effects. Dickinson and Bloomberg are perhaps more concerned that we would soon become more attached to avatars than to real human beings. The fascinating technology may probably be causing a decrease in our intimacy levels. The director, however, said that the film doesn’t blame technology for anything negative that happens in the film and we are to blame. He stated that the next film will also use technology that is just like that of the augmented glasses.

Amazon had won the Golden Globes Award for 'Transparent' and 'Mozart in the Jungle'. This saw it making a name for itself in the film industry. The films rights had been picked by Amazon last March at the South By Southwest Festival SXSW where the film debuted. This came in just after Amazon studios had a deal with the Magnolia Pictures on the distribution of its films.

Creative Control will be released by Amazon online for streaming with the partnership of Magnolia pictures later this year. Amazon prime members will be able to see it on Amazon Prime Video on March 11, 2016 on release.
