Hollywood's superstar Leonardo DiCaprio, won an Oscar for “Best Actor” category, at the 88th Academy Awards, for the film “The Revenant”. It is considered one of the most challenging and intriguing performance of his diverse career. The “Best Actress” category was won by Brie Larson for her emotional performance in “Room”.

The ace actor who was nominated 5 times before never won the grand title. “The Revenant” which saw a stellar performance by Leonardo DiCaprio, as legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass, has not failed to captivate the hoi-polloi of cinema lovers. The actor takes on the role of a struggling survivor, of a bear attack. Critics, earlier have heavily praised both the film and Leonardo’s acting. The 41-year-old actor became an instant heartthrob not only at the Academy Awards but also at the Golden Globe and BAFTA.The film won three Golden Globe awards and five BAFTA awards, besides bagging a total of three Oscars, outs of 12 nominations.

The “Titanic” actor was seen walking on the red carpet with his mother Irmelin, and his father George. The most adorable scene was when he stroked an elegant pose with long time companion, Kate Winslet. It was a reunion that charmed Hollywood and brought back the nostalgic memories of their first film together, the "Titanic". The “Jack and Rose” chemistry reached its peak when Leonardo hugged Kate, right after winning the award, while the audience cheered on. Earlier, the magnetic duo turned eyeballs, when they were seen together this year at the Golden Globe, where they each got an award.

Leonardo got his long due from Hollywood, not only through his Oscar win but also by a standing ovation he got, as he received his award. The highly anticipated acceptance speech surprised many, as he chose to highlight a global issue, instead of talking about himself. He called on the people to support climate change while stressing that it was very real. He pleaded to "support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people who'll be affected by this," adding at the end, "Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted."

Leonardo DiCaprio’s first ever nomination for the Oscar was for the category of “Best Supporting Actor” in 1994 for his performance in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”. Since then he was nomination a total of six times for the Oscars. Today’s win sure puts a historic relief on Hollywood itself, as it is thought to be a long overdue. Maybe, Johnny Deep who is also a rare talent without an Oscar is next.
