Ex Machina and the Oscars

Ex Machina won best visual effects at the Oscars this year. All of it was centered around Sci-fi. This win actually happened to be a surprise win. Not only did it win an Oscar but it was also nominated twice. Ironically Star Wars did not win the Oscar. I would’ve thought Star Wars would win because it grossed so much in total at the Box Office.

I have always been a Star Wars fan and all of the Cinema releases were good. Other contenders were Mad Max and The Martian. Mad Max is an Aussie classic. The Martian is a little more un heard of. This is what happened after the Oscars but before the Oscars are lot of prediction also takes place.

It was actually predicted that Star Wars would actually win the best visual effects. Stars Wars won this award previously 3 times.

Usually this happens quite a lot. The original movie usually does better because it has overall better visual effects. The Oscars is always shrouded around controversy. Sometimes big movie stars do not even make it to the Oscars. Initially in the first part of the Oscars it could be seen that all the winners were not surprising. But as things went along the winners became shockers.

The Man behind Ex Machina is Alex Garland. Ex Machina was also nominated for best original screen play. This was Alex's debut as a director. This will certainly help his repertoire. The Oscars winners are taken so seriously that people place bets on who will win on Betting sites. Among the big betting sites are Paddy Power.

There was also another movie that was meant to win best visual effects and that was The Revenant. Star Wars also won some awards at different ceremonies prior to the Oscars. These were in the lead up to the Oscars. One of the events was Visual Effects Society Awards. The Revenant was a reality movie which means everything was not staged. They filmed it as it was. It was difficult to make all the shots but still it did not take out best visual effects.

Best Visual Effects category was started back in 1927 so it has a long history. Polls are also a useful way to see the trends prior to who actually won. In 2014 Gravity was voted as the one who had the most chances to win. This was also a shocker because other movies like Iron Man I thought would have won. I have never heard of Gravity either but have heard of Iron Man.

So there we have it. The Oscars for 2016 and who won best visual effects. As always there are surprises especially towards the end of the Oscars, not at the beginning parts. I wonder who will take out the award in 2017?
