Emily Blunt in talks for Mary Poppins sequel

Walt Disney studio is preparing a new musical interpretation of his most beloved characters from Mary Poppins, a film directed by Rob Marshall ('Into the Woods'), 50 years after the original film premiere. They are in the talks with no other than the famous actress Emily Blunt for the role of Marry Poppins, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

According to the edition digital specialist of the magazine Entertainment Weekly, the film, which will be produced by John DeLuca and Marc Platt, will have the action placed in London two decades after the events that happened in 'Mary Poppins' (1964) in which the lead role was played by Julie Andrews - who won an Oscar for best actress - and Dick Van Dyke.

The plot is based on the same story writer P.L. Travers and recounts the adventures of the protagonist, a nanny capable of transforming an obscure world in a colorful universe, along with the Banks family.

The duo that is composed by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will compose original songs for the new soundtrack, and the one and only David Magee will be writing the scenario.

The project has the approval of the family Travers and Richard Sherman's opinion, one of the composers of the original film with his brother Robert and author of the famous song 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'. Rob Marshall won the 2002 Oscar for best movie musical 'Chicago'.

The Mary Poppins universe was recently relived on the big screen thanks to film 'Saving Mr. Banks' (2013), which tells the story behind the original film and the meetings of the writer P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney in the early 60s for the project to receive the green light to become a legend of cinema.
