Alicia Vikander is set for big things

Alicia Vikander is a Swedish actress and dancer born in October 1988. After making her feature film debut in 2010 in the film Pure, she finally broke in the public limelight in 2015 from her starring roles in the films Ex Machina, The Danish Girl and Testament of Youth.

The Swedish actress recently made headlines in September for splitting with her boyfriend and co star in the movie, The Light between Oceans, Michael Fassbender, just under one year of dating. The two had first met on the set of the film. The two did not shy away from the public scene as they were photographed together at the formula one Grand Prix in Monaco, back in May. The affection and happiness on show then did not harbor any signs of a split up. Even though none of the two gave any reasons for the split up, Fassbender has previously been quoted blaming his work commitment for his relationship problems.

Nevertheless, away from her private life Alicia Vikander is set for big things in her career. Following the success of Ex Machina, she has some prime projects lined for her with the latest being her role in The Circle, based on the novel by Dave Eggers. This will certainly be a huge test in her career as she will be pitting her character and skills against those of a worldwide icon, Tom Hanks.

On the other hand, she is a frontrunner along with Rooney Mara to scoop the best supporting actress category in the Oscars in February. This recognition is set to come from their exploits in Carol for Mara the Danish girl Alicia Vikander for her 2015’s breakthrough performance.

Meanwhile, reports by variety indicate that Mara and Vikander has been ruled as the frontrunners by the Foreign Press Association in the lead actresses category for the Golden Globes Awards. The Golden Globes Awards are a notable predecessor to the Oscars, but in most cases, the two awards don’t always line up. This therefore means that the two actresses will not necessarily be upgraded to the Lead actresses’ category in the Oscars.

The foreign press association has however called foul on the controversial decision of Focus Features and Weinstein company, to support campaigns for actresses Mara and Vikander in the films Carol and The Danish Girl respectively. Vikander and Mara are the only clear-cut front runners in the best supporting category. The other stand out contenders in this category include; Kate Winslet for Steve Jobs, Elizabeth Banks for Love and mercy, and Jennifer Jason Leigh for the Hateful Eight. Nevertheless, if Alicia Vikander ends up in the Lead category for the Danish girl, she could as well be nominated for a best supporting role for her work in Ex Machina.

The Golden Globes nominees will be announced on December 11th whereas the Oscar nominees will be revealed on 15th of January.
