'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' was originally the name of a textbook which was mentioned in passing in 'The Philosopher’s Stone'. This was during the time Harry Potter had first joined Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. 4 years later, it has been published as a book in the real world by prolific writer J.K Rowling. However, the movie has been credited to Newt Scamander who is magi zoologist and a fictional author as well. He authored the book in 1927 and his portrait hangs in the study of Dumbledore. The book describes eighty-five magical species (as documented over his many years of traveling the globe) that exist all over the wizarding world. Scamander introduced a number of major parts of magical legislation during the time he served at the Ministry of Magic’s Beast Division. This was inclusive of the 1965 ban imposed on experimental breeding of magical creatures and the 1947 Werewolf Registry.
The plot of this incredible movie is set in the city of New York back in the year 1926 and is as follows: The film begins with the arrival of Newt Scamander in New York City where a No-Maj who is a human by the name Jacob Kowalski accidentally releases the monsters contained in his suitcase. Scamander was essentially making a short stop after concluding his many travels around the globe to carry out research on his book of Magizoology. These monsters proceed to inflict terror on Manhattan and instigate a serious conflict between the No-Maj population and the Maj population. The wizards battle to contain the mayhem being experienced in Manhattan and still juggle the politics of the world of wizarding, Newt Scamander exposes Jacob Kowalski on an epic journey in the magical world of America. All this happens at a time when the state of non-magical and magical relations in the United States of America are tense because of the New Salem Philanthropic Society’s presence. This is a fanatical extremist group that passionately advocates for both the eradication of wizard kind and Second Salem. The film happens over a 2-day time period.
Director David Yates said: 'Fantastic Beasts is a fish out of water story of an Englishmen in New York. And you get this wonderful juxtaposition between the two cultures because there are very different rules and politics in the American wizarding world'
