Station 19: A Fire Breaking Out?

The Series

Inspired by the famous hospital series “Grey’s Anatomy”, "Station 19" now welcomes us into the dramatic lives of firefighters in Seattle. Offering dramatic scenes of firefighting, a perspective on the struggle of being a woman in a male-dominated workplace mixed and a mix of love and drama, this is a show worth checking out. Actors include Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason Winston George, Grey Damon, and Danielle Savre.

Episode 3 – Contain the Flame

Things got heated up for real during what we saw at "Station 19" s01ep03, “Contain the flame”. The main conflict circles around Andy and Jack both getting the opportunity of being team captain. With Andy in charge, bad decisions are made, and we’re given reasons to believe the team might question whether she’s suitable for being captain or not. Jack, on the other hand, is doing great, making smart decisions based on his experience. Viewers suggest Andy is not fit to lead as she is too insecure, trying to prove herself worthy. Being a woman
surrounded by men she’s acting in a stubborn and selfish way. This is by no means beneficial to any member of her team, but is she really a lost case?

While buildings certainly are on fire in episode 3, they’re not the only ones burning. Andy, Jack, and Ryan the cop are all part of a love triangle causing tension between the three. Later in the episode, Ryan finds Andy and they’re having a conversation on his fear of what she might think of him. When Ryan leaves, Andy watches him, licking her lips as he goes. The tension fills the room, and everything points toward a coming romance between the two of them. While we don’t yet know what’s going to happen, there is no doubt that conflicts between Ryan, Andy and Jack are coming. A complicated past mixed with the battle of lieutenant captains – that’s great news for anyone in favor of drama.

Another conflict at the station is that of Montgomery and Andy. While Montgomery doesn’t think Andy is unfit to be team captain, he certainly doesn’t think she’s ready just yet. When Andi talks to her girls about Montgomery’s view on her capability, they all agree that she’s got what it takes. Does she really? We’re probably going to figure that out in the near future.

What’s Going to Happen Next?

Episode 4, "Reignited", is just around the corner (April 5th). In addition to being co-captains, Andy and Jack are disagreeing over financial
decisions made at the station, heating things up even more. The questions we may ask for the title is: "What is going to reignite? Are there going to be major arguments in the station? Will something happen between Andy and Jack?" The title leaves a lot to the imagination.

With all of these conflicts, the challenge of being female, a complicated romance and a “reignition” waiting around the corner, I can’t help
to ask the question:" Is there a fire breaking out? "Obviously, there is another physical fire ahead of us, but I do believe we’re getting more than that. As tension was building up during episode 3, we’re going into episode 4 needing only just a spark to experience an explosion. Missing out on the coming episode is simply not an alternative. There will be fires.
