Amazon Announces Possible "Lord Of The Rings" Reunion!

Imagine all of your "Lord Of The Rings" (LOTR) characters brought back to life on the small screen- now wouldn’t that be a sign for sore eyes! Peter Jackson’s extraordinary work may be in for a huge comeback, as a follow-up on one of the most successful trilogies in the movie industry to date.

With the LOTR and "The Hobbit" franchises well wrapped-up and already labeled the world’s favorites, it came as a breath of fresh air knowing that Bilbo Baggins, Frodo, and the entire Middle Earth could become a lasting TV series.

A rep for Amazon was quoted in a statement as saying: “The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen. We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth”.

What do we know so far?

According to Amazon, there is a big potential to develop a series-inspired story based on LOTR trilogy, a story stemming from Tolkien’s novels and short stories. What started out as a speculation is now a confirmed fact by Amazon. The network service acknowledged that they have acquired rights to translate Tolkien’s masterpieces onto the small screen and develop a continuous storytelling which is expected to reach immense success in return.

Sharon Tal Yguado, Amazon’s new chief of scripted programming pointed out that "Lord of the Rings" has become the definition of a successful movie echo of a written story, which is why it is bound to be a massive hit if and when the series air. He further explained that a collaboration with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line is likely to take place, giving the audience exactly what they were craving for all these years.

As a response, Tolkien’s estate rep, Matt Galsor, issued a statement, noting that Amazon has risen to the occasion of creating the series with high-quality. Everyone over at Amazon has been creating and working on delivering original content inspired by JRR Tolkien’s novels and short stories, all of which guarantee an instant success as soon as the series hot the box-office.

Amazon acquired the rights to the series for a whopping $200 million, but the series is expected to cost a further $150 million in production costs per season.

Amazon will be trying hard to overshadow the immense success of HBO’s "Game of Thrones" and challenge itself into creating original, unique and appealing content which ought to engage spectators across the world.

Aside from this project, a spin-off on "Star Wars" was also announced, but it seems as though the public found the LOTR announcement way more intriguing and desirable.

The details

No known cast or a more specific idea has been revealed yet, and it has not be determined which stories will make it into the written scripts. However, knowing that we have something to look forward to as soon as GOT ceases to air, is thrilling nonetheless.

LOTR movies became the most awarded movie franchise to date, which speaks not of its popularity alone, but of people’s eagerness to get a sneak peek at some of their favorite characters’ adventures and quests. It is expected that a long-term series contract would be highly profitable for Amazon. However, the network has a big task ahead- from choosing the proper cast, to incorporating clever writing and attention-grabbing music in the series. It takes a village, but hopefully, this will become everything we have ever dreamt of.
