American Horror Story Season 7 - More clowns, as if IT wasn't already enough!

"American Horror Story's" seventh season, subtitled "Cult", is certainly among the most smartly written and addictive ones so far. While there are a few lackluster episodes to sit through before the season becomes enjoyable and meets the expectations built up from the wait, if you're a fan of the show, it'll be worth it. "American Horror Story: Cult" reaches its potential at episode four, and it's an uphill journey from there.

AHS : Cult, follows the story of Kai Anderson and Ally Mayfair-Richards, played by the wonderful Evan Peters and Sara Paulson. Kai is an politically persuasive man who terrorizes Ally and her wife, and is on his way to creating a cult of murderers dressed as clowns. He uses this fear to jump up as a member of the city council of the fictitious Brookfields Heights.. Ally is a damaged woman who gets infatuated after Donald Trump wins the 2016 presidential elections, and her phobias and traumas re-emerge. This instability ultimately causes her wife Ivy to leave her.

Perhaps no one is more enthusiastic to vote than the injured Gary Longstreet (Chaz Bono), who Kai drags into the polling place. As he bleeds out, Gary casts his vote for Donald Trump, before exiting his station, holding up his bloody stump and yelling, “Welcome to Trump’s America, motherf—ers!”

The big plot point of "American Horror Story : Cult", as the subtitle suggests, is how the cult of murdering clowns triggers fear in the city folk."American Horror Story: Cult", however intriguing it may be, with its exaggerated creepiness, and everyone's deep dark fear - clowns, is brought down by broad political generalizations of Trump and Clinton supporters, like for instance, when Ally shouts and screams when Trump won the elections (albeit this may be due to her trauma and not because of the generalization in question).

The recurrence of the terrifying Twisty (John Carroll Lynch), after Ally begins seeing the clowns everywhere is a major plus of the season. Sara Paulston is definitely someone to fawn over this season. The over-the-top, screaming, crying performance is an unnerving delight to watch. Not to mention the rumor mill has churned out some juicy tidbits, and Emmy's might just be around the corner for Paulston. "American Horror Story : Cult", could be the big comeback for her, after being snubbed for her work in AHS : "Roanoke".

“If you get the world scared enough, they will set the world on fire for us.” Kai

It appears that Paulson may not be the only one sounding Emmy bells, as Evans Peters, playing Kai Anderson on the show is also earning much-deserved awards buzz.

An interesting tidbit is that late actress Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd was on a panel promoting "American Horror Story: Cult" at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Fans eagerly wait to see what she might bring to the table.

How Kai recruits his cult members? By preying on their fear and anger to drive them to the brink, and then appearing as their savior.

The latest news to come to light about AHS :" Cult", shows a humane side of the producers, as they decided to make substantial edits to the opening scene of episode 6 of the season, which portrayed an occurrence of gun violence. This was in light of the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, which involved the ever rising problem of gun violence. The opening, filmed two months prior to the air date, was edited to shield the viewers as many might be triggered by the violent images. The producers of AHS have chosen to air only the edited version, while the uncut version will be available on the VOD platform.

All in all, "American Horror Story's" seventh season promises to be a great watch despite any drawbacks and plot holes it may have. Happy binge watching!
