'Rough Night': The Wedding Party is Here

'Rough Night' is due to hit the cinemas on June 16th. Released by Sony Pictures, from the makers of 'Broad City', the movie tells the tale of 5 college girlfriends who reunite in Miami for a bachelorette party. All is 'good clean fun’ until they get a stripper involved, with unexpected results.

Filming took place in Long Beach, California, in October 2016, while the pier restaurants and bars of Hermosa Beach, California, were used as stand-ins for Miami nightlife

The 5, played by Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz, are everybody’s dream’ girl gang. In 'Rough Night' they get up to the usual mischief you would expect in such a scenario; from drinking to reminiscing their college days, all interspersed with plenty of penis-themed regalia. As previously hinted, the plot takes a twist when someone suggests they hire a male stripper. Just what that twist is, you will have to wait to see the movie to find out. Sony Pictures, as always is doing its best to drum up interest in 'Rough Night' with plenty of pre-release publicity. Events in their stars’ lives are giving them ample assistance in this regard.

A ladies' getaway in Miami turns chaotic when one of the women accidentally causes a stripper's death

Star Scarlett Johansson is playing her part well in this regard. The announcement of her split from French husband Romain Dauriac may not have come as much of a surprise; what did come as a shock, however, was her request for joint custody of their daughter, Rose. The shock is caused by the general observation that Romain had been playing the primary parental role since Rose’s birth two years ago. He, like pretty much everyone else, had expected to have sole custody of Rose, who he planned to take to live with him in Paris. Naturally, her mother would be allowed full access to her daughter whenever she chose to visit her in Paris. Clearly Scarlet had other plans of her own. She asked for joint custody when she filed for divorce, taking everyone by surprise. The only thing the tabloids love more than a messy divorce is a custody battle.

As if this was not enough, Scarlett held the limelight in March with her fifth stint as host of NBCs ever-popular sketch show 'Saturday Night Live'. Hosting SNL would have been sufficient, especially as she had not been seen in public since she filed for divorce; but Scarlet went much further by playing Ivanka Trump on SNL and from all accounts, she nailed it. She was positively radiant and smiling broadly as she left NBC’s Rockefeller Center studios and headed for the after party. She is obviously coping well with her tumultuous private life.

The film was originally entitled 'Rock That Body', before being renamed 'Rough Night'

If, as one would reasonably suspect, the object of Sony Picture’s publicity campaign is to get us to go out and see 'Rough Night' I will freely admit that, at least in my own case, they have succeeded. I, for one, can hardly wait for June 16th to roll around. Are you with me? If you are, I have fantastically good news for both you and me: Sony Pictures will be hosting advanced screenings of 'Rough Night' in 20 cities as of May 23. What’s more, in keeping with the theme of the movie, screenings will be preceded by entertainment, games and drinks, a mini-bachelorette party, if you will.
