'The Great Wall' an American-Chinese epic movie

What were they trying to keep out? That is the sound of the 2017 American-Chinese Movie 'The Great Wall'. The film is a write up of Carlo Bernard, Edward Zwick, Doug Miro, Tony Gilroy, and Max Brooks and is directed by Zhang Yimou, one of the greatest visual artist of our time.

The movie is adapted from a short story by Franz Kafka. It is a film that puts to light the enclosure and protection of Europe. This enclosure is by a complex and growing systems of fences, walls, and systems of exclusion.

The starring in the movie features the celebrated American superstar Actor Matt Damon (William Garin), Tian Jing (Lin Mae-commander), Andy Lau, Edward Zwick, and Marshall Herskovitz. The plot

The movie tells a captivating story of a select force that makes a heroic stance for humanity in one of the most iconic structures in the world. The film unfolds facts about the emperor’s subjugation of less powerful kings and the consolidation of the empire. It covers the building of the wall and the expense incurred in both time and life equivalence in an effort to protect his vast domain from raiders, rebellious subjects, attempts on his life, romance in addition to his wars. The action packed movie features combats of hand to hand basis and the epic fighting styles.

Production

Chinese legendary producer Zhang Yimou was set to produce an epic film that was later confirmed by the CEO of Legendary East to cost about $135 million dollars. The film would be entirely in English which would make it the first ever English movie directed by Zhang Yimou. Principal photography for the movie began in 2015 March on a location in Qingdao. The $135 million budget makes it the most expensive film to be shot entirely in China. The companies involved in its production are the China film group, Legendary Entertainment, and Atlas Entertainment.

Release

The movie was initially set to be released on November 23rd, 2016 but the Chinese release is now set to be in December 2016 while Universal pictures would make an American release on the 17th of February 2017.

Controversies

The movie has faced claims of whitewashing. This has mainly surrounded the fact that the movie that is set 1000 years ago has its main character as Matt Damon who is an American. The movie director came out against the claims. He stated that the American actor is not playing a role that was initially conceived for a Chinese actor. In his statement, the director explains how Damon plays a key role in the movie and defends his movie against any racism claims.
