Olivier Assayas introduce as a 'Personal Shopper'

Olivier Assayas, a Parisian movie director, famous for his movie 'From Paris, with Love' (2015), which is actually a wok of art - chose once again Kristen Stewart for the leading role in his new masterpiece. The previous movie which proved good results from this French-American cooperation was 'Clouds of Sils Maria' (2014), a drama film in which we saw beautiful Juliette Binoche too, and also actors who have their roles in 'Personal Shopper'- Lars Eidinger, Benoit Peverelli, and Nora von Waldstätten. Shall this movie prove once again Kristen’s talents and make us enjoy completely in beautiful Paris scenes? If you missed your chance to find out in Cannes, Sydney, Melbourne, Toronto, New York, or in another film festival, you will have your chance to see it in December 2016 in France and Belgium; in January next year in Switzerland, Germany, Austria; in February in Russia; and finally in March 2017 in Ireland, UK and USA.

Kristen Stewart is a 'Personal Shopper'

The Plot

The plot of this movie is centered in Paris, where Maureen (Kristen Stewart), a girl in her 20s is doing a job she hates: she is a fashion assistant of a celebrity, Kyra (Nora von Waldstätten), and she needs to fill Kyra’s closet with the best clothes that can be found in London and Paris. There wasn’t a better solution for her to stay in Paris, so she took this job and waited for a sign... A sing from the spirit of her twin brother who had recently died in the same house Maureen lives. Until that happens, her life will be monotonic. But one night she finally gets a sign from her brother, or at least, she thinks so...

This movie is very creepy the most of the time, but in the end, it can’t be considered as a horror movie. The precise genre could be a psychological thriller with some horror and mystery elements. Rumour says that Cannes audience didn’t love this movie (to use a euphemism). It actually was a punchline of this famous film festival. The audience didn’t like this ghost story, and the way movie is questioning the mortality, so the movie was boo-ed. But, in general, this movie has positive reviews: 67% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and 6,4 stars on IMDb, and the director, Olivier Assayas, won the Best Director Ex-Aequo award by the Official Competition jury in Cannes. So, the reactions are divisive, and we should check it by ourselves.

Olivier Assayas and Kristen Stewart at Cannes film festival

The movie was filmed in Paris before the 2015 Paris attack. Kisten and the rest of the crew left France and went to Prague only 48 hours before the attack happened. Maybe that was a sign that the movie itself will have luck in the future.

The Twilight star as a personal shopper, the French director, beautiful Paris, fashion and a haunted house – could make this movie an original work of art, with some unusual and unexpected elements. Maybe we will agree with the audience from Cannes, but maybe this movie will catch our eye and give us something we never saw before.
