New romantic thriller puts together X-Men's James McAvoy and Oscar winner Alicia Vikander

X-Men Apocalypse's James McAvoy and Oscar award winner Alicia Vikander are the main couple in the new romantic thriller Submergence. The first image of the thriller shows the two A listers locked in an embrace with each other.

Submergence is a film which is adapted from a novel by JM Ledgard which goes by the same name. It is directed by Wim Wenders and written by Erin Dignam. Wenders casted James McAvoy as James Moore and Alicia Vikander as Danielly 'Danny' Flinders. This will be Vikander's first project ever since she won the Oscars.

Apart from McAvoy and Vikander, the American-French-Spanish romantic thriller is also starring Alex Hafner. The Spanish-American multicultural actor stars as a character known as Mr Bellhop. Hafner has mostly concentrated his career on the Spanish side and has appeared in American movies on countable occasions. His most notable American films include The Counselor where he starred alongside the likes of Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt and Extinction where he played alongside Clara Lago and Matthew Fox.

The Submergence film is about two lovers who are each caught in their own desperate situation and are separated from one another by thousands of miles. They however find solace in remembering the intense romance they had shared the previous Christmas after encountering each other at a beach along the Atlantic Coast.

In the film, James Moore is all the way down in Eastern Africa where he has been captured by jihadists in the war ravaged country of Somalia. The Jihadi fighters think he is a spy for the British government and thereby decide to hold him captive. Moore's love Danielle

Flinders on the other hand is at the bottom of the ocean, she is exploring the Greenland Sea's bed from the safety of a submarine. She is a professional bio-mathematician who is seeking to support her theory of the origin of life through a deep sea diving project. Moore and Flinders had met at an isolated Coastal hotel while they were both preparing for their dangerous exercusions.

The film is produced by Cameron Lamb who is known for his previous works such as Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter and Syrup among others. The production companies behind Submergence include Lila 9th Productions, Backup Films, Morena Films, and Waterstone Entertainment. The film will be distributed by Mars Distribution and Antena 3.

Filming of the movie started on April 12, 2016 in France, Spain, and Africa. Some filming has also taken place in Germany. Uta Independent Film Group is handling the film's sales for USA.

The upcoming film is promising to do well, it has already secured over 30 sales territories. Embakment Films was set to sell the feature at Cannes Festival. It landed the deal to handle the international sales for the film in January this year. Among the territories in which it has already secured deals include Germany, uK, France, Spain, Canada, and Latin America. There are some places which are still pending.

Meanwhile, McAvoy seems to be having it all good this year. After finishing his current Submergence project, he will be heading off for another equally lucrative deal offered by Fox. McAvoy will be starring as Victor Frankenstein in Fox's Victor Frankenstein.
