Arrow Season 5 has been confirmed

Television line CW’s lineup has been getting stronger in recent years, largely thanks to its superb superhero programming. Popular series Arrow kicked off the network’s comics universe back in 2012 when Oliver Queen took a bow to protect his city. This show has brought big ratings for CW, and it is not a total shocker that Arrow will be renewed for the 2016/2017 season.

Arrow season 5 will happen on the CW in Fall of 2016

According to CW boss Mark Pedowitz who confirmed this very exciting piece of news on Friday, Arrow will be renewed alongside other shows, namely, The Vampire Diaries, The Flash, The Originals, supernatural, Jane the Virgin," izombie, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow, the 100 and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Early this year, Arrow star Stephen Amell also released an informal statement to Facebook where he revealed that he would be under contract until 2019. Therefore, while this does not confirm anything, it is possible that after Season 5, there is room for a sixth and seventh installment of Arrow too! But as he cautioned, that does not mean that Arrow will run that long, but in case it does... I will be here.

Arrow is now in its 4th season, and its plot currently shows no signs of stopping any time soon. From the beginning, Arrow’s structure has been balancing present events with flash backs to Oliver’s 5 years of hell, therefore fans have always counted on knowing more about the Emerald Archer’s adventures in those 5 years. Considering that there is still a lot of material to be covered in the flashbacks as well as the fact that Oliver’s journey from dark Hood to full fledged Green Arrow isn’t complete yet, news of this series’ renewal is very much welcome.

Arrow is targeting a seventh season run, based on lead Stephen Amell‘s contract

Meanwhile, the 20th episode of the fourth season of Arrow is reportedly expected to air on May 25. This should also serve as this show's final episode for season 4. According to spoiler sites, this upcoming episode may see the departure of at least 1 character. There are speculations that Laurel, Quentin Lance or Donna may be killed off.

Arrow has really become a flagship series for CW. It has expanded the audience scope tuning in to this relatively diminutive network, and has created an entire new universe of heroes which is also continually growing. For one, popular hit Legends of Tomorrow could certainly never have existed if not for the success of Arrow. Arrow did a lot of work to launch its Legends early in the beginning during season 2 and its ensemble cast of Legends has given the CW universe  a whole new view on comic television.

Episode information and Premiere date

There’s no news as of yet about the number of episodes that will be ordered for its next season, but renewal confirmations from CW are a great place to start from. While there were no premiere dates announced during the renewal confirmations, most of CW scripted dramas usually get moving during early October, so it’s a safe bet for the Arrow Season five . Meanwhile Arrow and other CW shows such as The Flash are currently on a brief hiatus, but you should be able to catch Arrow once it returns at 8 p.m. ET come March 23.
