18 long years have past since Jen Yu flew right into the misty clouds of Mount Wudang. Malevolent powers have been waiting to wreck havoc on the world since her ascension. We seen Yu Shu Lien played by Michelle Yeoh heading to Beijing. The governor has since passed and the Sword of Destiny is present at the ceremony. As always, there are those at the funeral with their eyes on the sword and nothing else. Snow Vase played by Natasha Liu and Wei Fang played by Harry Shun Jr are both striving to steal the sword. Snow Vase seeks to steal it from the royal court and Wei wants it for his evil master Hades played by Jason S. Lee.

A spellbinding rooftop fight ensues and the protector of the sword, Shu Lien manages to capture Wei Fang. She imprisons him in the affluent manor and proceeds to interrogate him. She desperately wants to know who sent the fleet-footed thief. Despite sensing the ulterior motives of Snow Vase, she still takes up the young fighter under her wing. Shu Lien becomes her master.

There is a host of protectors for the Sword of Destiny. Alongside Shu Lien, there is Silent Wolf who is played by Donnie Yen. As the movie progresses, we learn that he had engaged Shu Lien. However, he was killed in a fight. Shu Lien thought he had died and their romance was over. In this new movie, we discover that he didn't die. They entertain with very well choreographed fight scenes in this movie.

Special features
Modern Computer Generated Imaging (CGI) technology has been heavily used in this movie. This is especially so in creating the backdrops for the fight sequences. Moreover, this technology has been used in constructing the headquarters for Hades. The makers of this movie leaned a bit too much into a fantasy perspective when creating this movie. By doing this, audiences can see parallels between this movie and other fantasy blockbusters released in the recent past. This dilutes the brand of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Sword of Destiny.
