Doctor Who breaks the records

Doctor Who has a long history as a sci-fi series. BBC has produced this hit series between 1963 and 1989 and the second round begun 2005. This is the 9th series, which started in September 2015. This season, has been a great success around the world. The opening episode “The Magician`s Apprentice” in the beginning of September on BBC America gathered more than 2 million viewers, which is more than twice the Series 8 average viewers. And this phenomenon has continued during the whole season of Series 9.

A great success of Series 9

There have to be something very unique why Doctor Who and his story interest so great amount of viewers years after years and even with the increasing interest. This alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey is even more popular in the UK. His journey through all of time and the space in his space ship TARDIS with his companion gathered from 5.6 million up to 8.3 viewers per episode during the Series 9. It`s a huge amount for sci-fi series.

This season, Series 9, has been hailed by a number of critics as the show`s best season for ever. Series 9 has got super high reviews on the online review site Rotten Tomatoes. Scores are so high as even perfect 100 % and average scores were 8.1. So, it wasn´t any miracle, that Series 9 of Doctor Who won the Rotten Tomatoes` Golden Tomato Award for the best-reviewed TV sci-fi/fantasy/horror show of 2015.

The Key Factors For The Success

Steven Moffat and his writers team has made an excellent work. Doctor´s ability to regenerate into a new body engage people. More and more people want to see what will be the next incarnation and which kind will be the new personality for the next regeneration. Sometimes the success will be quite simple, especially when it has been based on a simple story. But it requires an imagination!

I have to say that maybe the biggest reason for the great success of Series 9 is actor Peter Capaldi, who took over in 2013 the Time Lord role as the 12th Doctor. He has taken the role at the new level comparing earlier seasons and created a character who will hook up the viewers. He is a real magician, nor only an apprentice!

There will be coming an interest change among the staff of Doctor Who for the next season.
