Kate Winslet fails to bag Oscar in the Steve Jobs film

We all know her from her cast in the sensational romantic story “Titanic.” Kate Winslet has been a face that we all desire to see in our movies not just for her beauty but her prowess in acting and bringing out our emotions. When she featured in the movie “Steve Jobs” a film about one of Americas idol celebrated globally for changing the way we communicate, everybody knew there was an award on her way. Her winning of BAFTA’s awards and Globe awards supported this position. However, when the Oscars best supporting actress was awarded to Alicia Vikander, hearts were broken for knowing that Winslet lost.

Alicia Vikander is a first time nominee who was nominated for her role in “The Danish Girl.” The 27 year old actress took the night by surprise by beating Jennifer Jason Leigh featured in “The Hateful Eight,” Rooney Mara in “Carol,” Rachel McAdams in “Spotlight” and favourite Kate Winslet in “Steve Jobs.”

The role of supporting actress is awarded to a female actor who played a supporting role to the main cast. It is a competitive role second only to the main actress. Winning the supporting actress Oscars is an important feat for the contenders.

Kate Winslet is viewed to have lost the award because it was posed to be hers. She arrived with Leonardo DiCaprio through the red carpet in reminiscent of their award sweeping movie “Titanic.” DiCaprio who was also nominated for various awards including the best actor in his role in the movie “The Revenant” was expected to bag a number of awards including the Oscars for the best actor. The two met at the red carpet and told their story causing a buzz. Kate Winslet professed her support for DiCaprio’s nominations saying “ It does really feel as though it’s Leo’s year…I keep getting emotional about Leo.” A win for Kate would have definitely made the night theirs especially after the entrance.

Kate Winslet is probably the most popular loser of the night after losing the Oscars to a first time nominee. The 88th Academy Awards recognizes the best in movie production, casting, and various other roles. It is a prestigious award that brings together celebrities across America and beyond. Kate Winslet who has won a number of awards was the strongest contender for this role. Her loss of the award disappointed many. This will be the fifth time that she has lost at the prestigious awards.

Kate played the role of Joanna Hoffman who is one of the few people who stood up to the dominant Steve Jobs. Hoffman was an apple executive who was able to handle Steve Jobs. She was head of Macintosh who despite being a woman is noted to be a driving force behind the Apple marketing and experienced the softer side of Steve Jobs. In an interview by NBC News, Kate Winslet said she really looked up to playing the role. Some commenters have pointed out that Winslet played a bigger role than an ordinary supporting actress. The story of Steve Jobs within that perspective focuses more on the times when Joanna Hoffman featured in Steve’s life.
