Walking Dead fights against piracy

The Walking Dead is an American horror drama based on the comic book 'The Walking Dead' by Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, and Tony Moore. The TV show is developed by Frank Darabont and has been nominated for a number of awards including the Golden Globe Award for Best TV series Drama and the Writers Guild of America Award for Television: New series.

Though the series is one of the most popular shows on television, the number doesn’t always reflect on AMC. It was stated that the TV show was the second most pirated TV show last year. Due to online piracy, episodes of the TV show have been getting their way to fans even before they are aired by the AMC. This has led to low revenue for the AMC since many people now don’t opt to download or watch it online. To counter the growing online piracy, AMC is now on the move to adding watermarks to their content which will enable them to trace where the pirated copies originate from.

The move by AMC is meant to discourage pirates from getting their hands on their content which means it won’t prevent episodes from being copied or shared illegally online. However, it is hoping that the pirates will consider the risk of being traced and be discouraged. Most of the leaks are done by international distributors and their associate subcontractors who do this after production. Despite being one of the most pirated shows on TV, the Walking Dead has managed to retain its status as one of the top-rated TV shows.
