Many Edward Thomas mainly known as Tom Hardy is a British actor who born in England over 40 years ago. The actor has been one of the highly rated British actors especially after appearing in many British scenes he is famous for films such as 'Dark Knight Rises' and Warrior. Tom Hardy's early life and education

The charming Brit had a normal childhood, albeit one surrounded by art. Hardy was born on 15 September 1977 in Hammersmith, London. His birth name is Edward Thomas Hardy.

The young Hardy grew up with no siblings as he is an only child. His mother Anne Hardy (née Barrett) was an artist and a painter whereas his dad Edward Hardy aka Chips was a novels and comics writer. The artistic nature of his parents' careers may perhaps explain Hardy's choice to delve into the acting career of acting and film production.

Hardy grew up in East Sheen, a suburb area in London. His parents enrolled him at the Tower House School for his preparatory education. This school specifically offers preparatory education to boys aged between 4 and 13. Upon completing his studies at the preparatory school, Tom joined Reed's School and later on proceeded to Duff Miller College. He afterward joined Richmond Drama School to pursue a career in acting. He further honed his acting skills at Drama Centre London.

Tom Hardy's career

Hardy has had a 19-year career in acting and television. He has been grazing fans' screens ever since 1998. His first ever appearance on television was on the 'Find Me' a Supermodel show at the age of 21. Hardy won this competition and consequently secured a short modeling contract with Model Ones. Following this, Hardy enrolled at Drama Centre London to polish up his acting skills. He was however forced to leave the institution midway after he landed a role in the 'Band Of Brothers' miniseries in 2001, Hardy was chosen to play the role of United States Army Private John Javonec in the award-winning miniseries.

The year 2001 is also the year that saw Hardy make his debut as an actor in the feature film. Hardy landed a slot in the 2001 war thriller by Ridley Scott, 'Black Hawk Down'. Then 24 year Hardy afterward began starring in several other films both in the British film industry and in America's Hollywood. He appeared in the 2002 movie 'Star Trek –Nemesis' where he had secured a role as Praetor Shinzon, a leader of the Reman people. This earned him a great deal of international exposure.

2003 to 2005

After his successful role in 'Black Hawk', Hardy was enlisted in the cast of 2003 movie 'Dot-the-I'. This was followed by a role in Simon –An English Legionnaire. This was a true story based on the historical Foreign Legion of France. Hardy and the rest of the cast had to travel to Nothern Africa for the movie's filming.

After he was done filming Simon, Hardy returned to England for another equally big role that awaited him. He had been selected to star as Matt in 2003 movie 'LD 50 Lethal Dose'.

Hardy also made stage performances in 2003. He was on stage at UK's Royal C. Theatre performing the play 'Blood' and also at the Hampstead Theatre acting in the play 'In Arabia, We Would All Be Kings'. These two plays both earned Hardy the London Evening Theatre Outstanding Newcomer Award. Hardy would also be nominated the following year Laurence Olivier's award for the Most Promising Newcomer. This was a nomination for his stellar performance as Skank in the 'In Arabia We Would All Be Kings' play.

There was also a third stage role for Hardy in 2003. He acted as Vincent in the play 'The Modernists' at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

In 2004, Hardy featured in the film 'Layer Cake' as Clarkie. He also got to land another stage role in 2004 when he starred as Michael in the play 'Festen at Almeida' Theatre in London.

2005 was a television year for Hardy. He was chosen to play the role of Robert Dudley in 'The Virgin Queen', a BBC'S miniseries. He was to portray the Dudley character as the 'Earl of Leicester', a longtime pal of Queen Elizabeth I who had a platonic yet romantic relationship with her throughout her reign as the Queen of England.

Hardy also got to be part of the cast of 2005 television drama Gideon's Daughter and was also named in the cast of 'A for Andromeda'. This television series first aired in 2006. 2006 to 2010

In the year 2006, the talented actor made appearances in films 'Marie Antoinette and Minotaur'. He also starred as Matthew in the television series 'Sweeney Todd'.

Just like 2005 was a television year for Hardy, 2007 also saw his good looking face light up numerous television screens across the world. Hardy starred in television programs 'Cape Wrath', 'Oliver Twist', and 'Stuart: A Life Backwards'. Hardy got a lead role in the latter series. He played the part of a homeless man and a victim of abuse named Stuart. He acted as Charles Bronson aka Michael Peterson, a prisoner who has spent the better part of his grownup life confined in a solitary cell. He had to put in work and gain 42 pounds in order to be considered for this particular role. Aside from film, Hardy also featured as Heathcliff in the 2008 two-episode TV series Wuthering Heights.

Come 2009, Hardy took another stab at television acting. He starred in Martina Cole's 'The Take' on the channel Sky One. Hardy acted as an alcoholic and drug addict gangster character in this four-part television drama. This particular role earned him a nomination for Best Male Filmstar at the 2009 Crime Thriller Awards.

In addition to 'The Take', Hardy also acted in the films 'Thick As Thieves' and 'Perfect' in 2009.

2011 to present

In 2011, Hardy replaced his peer Michael Fassbender in the role Ricki Tarr in the adapted movie 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'. He also starred in two other films namely 'Sergeant Slaughter' and 'Warrior', the latter being a Lionsgate film. In this given film, Hardy perfectly played the part of a young man called Tommy Riordan whose father was trying to coach him and get him ready for mixed martial arts tournaments against his brother. The following year 2012, Hardy acted in McG's romantic comedy 'This Means War'. He also starred in the film 'Dark Knight Rises' where he acted as supervillain Bane. Hardy is a father to two children, a son named Louis whom he got with his ex-girlfriend Rachael Speed in 2008 and a second child born to him and his wife Charlotte Riley in October 2015.
