World of Warcraft Movie Review

The movie 'World of Warcraft' version's writer-director, Duncan Jones, shared some details at a recent Blizzcon panel discussion.Recent details released by the creators of the upcoming World of Warcraft movie have calmed many lovers of the hugely popular online game, who have wondered how a movie can do the game justice. One, the writer-director and special effects advisor both play the game, so they have pledged to remain true to it as the movie is made and secondly, neither the Alliance nor the Horde factions will be portrayed as good or evil, leaving the viewer to draw his/her own conclusions.

Jones told the assembled crowd at Blizzcon that the initial script focused too heavily on the Alliance and not enough on the Horde, which are the two main rival factions in Warcraft that most player characters belong to. So, he went to Blizzard Entertainment executives in order to divide attention more equally between the two.

He also won't be characterizing either faction into clean lines of good versus evil: rather, Jones said, he will painting a more nuanced portrait with the help of characters that should appeal to both devoted fans and those who have never played the game before. The audience won't be left with a clear preference for one side over the other, but should be able to find things to empathize with both.

Characters like Lother and Durotan are said to be included, although no actors have yet been attached to the project. Jones stayed mom on his preferences for casting at Blizzcon, but we expect if you keep up with the latest movie news and websites, you should should hear some rumors soon.

One thing the film is likely to lack, though, is excessive violence. Although the fantasy television series Game of Thrones, which contains a fair amount of graphic battle scenes and violence, has been cited as influence for the WoW movie, Jones said at Blizzcon that he is shooting for a PG-13 rating.

It is unclear exactly in what way Game of Thrones will have an effect on the movie, such as whether Jones will borrow tactics from the series when it comes to the complexity of World of Warcraft's characters, battles or factions. But the PG-13 rating certainly won't mean the upcoming movie will be tame, according to its writer-director.
