'Skull Island' is the newest installment in Legendary Pictures 'Godzilla-Kong' film series. Its predecessor, of course, was Gareth Edwards 2014 Godzilla, and though an intriguing film, it had its critics. But there was evidently something in the monster genre, and now all eyes are on its follow-up and the revival of King Kong.

At the moment, the film is one of 2017's most unusual offerings and contains the potential to carry audiences away with its refreshing take. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has even noted that he is uninterested in delaying Kong from the audience for the first hour of filming and is determined to make a different kind of film from 'Godzilla'

The premise

'Skull Island' follows the story of a man who travels to a mystical island that happens to be the home to Kong; The King of Apes. This man, played by Tom Hiddleston, embarks on this journey in search of his brother who is stranded on the island while on a pursuit to find a mythical immunotoxin which is supposedly the cure for all illnesses and diseases, would be handy to have. John Goodman who plays Randa is a government official who leads this expedition. These explorers will have to dispute with all manner of dangerous and strange creatures that live on the island and provides an exciting time.

The 1976 version of 'King Kong' was also filmed in Hawaii

Cast

The film stars Tom Hiddleston ('Thor: The Dark World', 'Avengers') as Captain Conrad an ex-British SAS tracker and the leader of the expedition. Samuel L. Jackson ('Avengers', 'Τhe hateful eight', 'Age of Ultron') is cast as Packard, who is a Lieutenant Colonel delegated to chopper some explorers on an excursion. Academy Award winner Brie Larson ('Room', 'Trainwreck') plays in a cast as Weaver a photojournalist and peace activist.

Tom Hiddleston plays in a cast as Captain Conrad but also Russell Crowe was considered for the same role

John Goodman ('Argo', 'Transformers: Age of Extinction') is cast as Randa, an administrative official in charge of the expedition and Toby Kebbell from ('Dawn of the Planet of the Apes') is cast as US Army major and right-hand man to Packard.

The ensemble cast also includes John C. Reilly ('Step Brothers', 'Guardians of the Galaxy'), Corey Hawkins from 'Straight Outta Compton' and John Ortiz from 'Steve Jobs'. Tian Jing from the 'Police Story: Lockdown' and Thomas Mann ('Beautiful Creatures'). Jason Mitchell from 'Straight Outta Compton', Shea Whigham from 'The Wolf of Wall Street', and Eugene Cordero ('Kings of Summer').

The film has been directed by Vogt-Roberts from a script written by John Gatins, Max Borenstein, Derrick Connolly and Dan Gilroy, The film has been produced by Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, and Mary Parent. Alex Garcia and Eric are the executive producers.

Actor John Goodman, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, actors Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, Jason Mitchell, and Corey Hawkins of 'Kong: Skull Island' attend the Warner Bros. Presentation during Comic-Con International 2016 at San Diego Convention Center on July 2016 in San Diego, California

Production

Legendary Pictures first announced 'Skull Island' at the San Diego Comicon July 2014 and named the release date of November 2015, Universal pictures was to do the distributing. Initially Legendary granted Joe Cornish pleasure of directing, but Peter Jackson put forward Guillermo del Toro as a better director. It was confirmed that Jordan Vogt-Roberts would be the director in September 2014.

The film was retitled 'Skull Island' on December 2014. On September 10, 2015, Universal allowed Legendary Pictures to move the film to Warner Bros for a crossover film since Legendary owned the rights to produce the sequels with Warner Bros. It was later announced that the script referred to Monarch, the government entity in 'Godzilla'.

Kong's design is inspired by a combination of both the original 1933 King Kong and the Japanese adaptation of the 1960's

Several scriptwriters were attached to writing the script before filming began. The film seeks continuity between 'King Kong' and the 'Godzilla' worlds. The first script was written by Godzilla's Max Borenstein while the second was done by John Gatins. A writer Dan Gilroy also collaborated on the scriptwriting process. Derek Connoly was later confirmed to have been taking art in the script rewrites.

Joe DeVito sued producers of 'Skull Island' in April 2016 for using components of his own 'Skull Island' universe. He claimed to have created the elements and that the used them without permission.

The film takes place in 1971

Filming

The principal photography filming started in October 2015 and ended on March 18, 2016. Most of the filming happened in North Vietnam including Vân Long, Tràng An and Tam Coc, Ha Long Bay and at Tú Làn Caves System, the island of Oahu, and at Gold Coast, Australia. Other locations included Kualoa Ranch, Honolulu's Chinatown and Waikane Valley on Oahu. Filming began in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia on mid-January 2016

Sets currently under construction (10/2015) at Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii near the same filming locations as 'Jurassic World'

Release

On December 2014, the release date was to March 2017. The film will be released in both IMAX 3D and 3D versions.

Expected Box Office

After the 2005's adaptation went so well, I think fans are eager to see a modern reboot of the classic film. The film is expected to smash the box office in March 2017. The major approximations indicate that

Weekend: $70,000,000

Domestic: $300,000,000

Worldwide: $650,000,000

Considered to have the largest American adaption of King Kong on screen, standing nearly 100 feet tall while Peter Jackson's Kong was only 25 feet tall. In the two Japanese movies King Kong appeared he stood approximately 150 feet tall

'Skull Island' Vs 'Godzilla'

In comparison to 'Godzilla' to 2014's Godzilla, the cast of 'Skull Island' well beyond better. The strongest asset in Godzilla Godzilla's was the addition of Bryan Cranston, a zealous, compassionate figure who unfortunately didn’t stick around for longer than the beginning twenty minutes. Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were okay, but they rarely connected with the audience.

Then there's the cast of 'Kong: Skull Island', Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Reilly John and John Goodman – a group of actors who are at the top of the game, with the recent Academy Award winner for best actress Brie Larson.

Even from the trailer, the cast displays a fantastic chemistry, and the characters have great qualities, with Jackson, Goodman, and Reilly all at their campy, exaggerated best. In fact, Reilly's character has a great big bushy beard

Terry Notary who plays Kong in this movie worked with Andy Serkis in 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes 2011' & 'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes 2014' it's interesting that Serkis played Kong in 'King Kong 2005'

'Skull Island' is ridiculously humorous, it knows it and has embraced it. From a confused pilot who upon landing wonders whether what he sees is a monkey before being smashed up in the sky to John C Reilly's silly recognition that the name 'King Kong' is pretty ridiculous. It is apparent that the film's agenda is for the audience to have a good time.

Another awesome feature of this film is some of the beasts on display. They look just as awesome as Kong. The film features a watery mossy ram, enormous lizards, giant trees. The fact that the creatures are difficult to explain is a mark of how much inventive they are and therefore endows the movie with many spectacular objects.

The film is expected to be captivating, humorous and addictive with a well-crafted storyline and a cast of the best actors.
