70th British Academy Film Awards

If you live in the United Kingdom and you're a bit of a movie buff, you probably know there's nothing more exciting than watching the BAFTA Awards. In the Bafta Awards 2017, there were quite a few surprises and quite a few awkward moments that shocked us all. We're going to cover some of the interesting happens on the 70th anniversary of the BAFTA Awards!

The Host

If there's no one more brilliant, charming, hilarious or witty, it's Stephen Fry. He held his ground very well as usual with the typical cheeky double meanings and the ability to be able to get away with saying anything. He gave a very entertaining performance, but better yet he gave a certain charm to the show that made it fun to watch without it being a snobby show, which is typical of us Brits.

Best Film

If you're a serious movie buff and you wanted to win a million dollars 6 months ago, it would have been an easy win to say 'La La Land' would win. With the wonderful Emma Stone and the super talented Ryan Gosling, it was a guarantee this film would do amazing. Not only was the film amazing, but it was good enough to make any man cry with a sense of originality and authenticity. This film was definitely one of the best in 2017.

The Leading Actress

Emma Stone is a phenomenal actress who could possibly be one of the best actresses in the recent years. She has an energy that's captivating, interesting but also a uniqueness about her that keeps you drawn to the screen like a fly to... Fertilizer. In every single film she's been in she's been able to project this energy of almost effortless acting. Well, except 'Spiderman 2'. She has the ability to seem confident and witty, yet shy and reserved at the same time, it's quite amazing.

The Leading Actor

Casey Affleck, this man seems quite unusual. His speech was very strange and he seemed to either be extremely shy or very intoxicated. A lot of slurs and a few mumbles here and there with people looking confused at him. That doesn't discredit him from being the great actor he is, but wouldn't you think he could use that acting skills too, I don't know... Act more confident? It was like watching a kid doing a show and tell presentation for the first time in grade school. I almost for a second, thought I saw a trickle running down his pants leg. One thing you can say for sure is that it was a bit cringe, but it was an award well deserved never the less.

The Rising Star

You would never have expected it, but he's stolen the spotlight again. Tom Holland, the 20-year-old kid that people were talking down about only a year ago before he went into the wonderful Marvel universe playing 'Spiderman'. To everyone's surprise, he blew people away with his performance. With another 5 movies to come, this young man is growing up to be quite the star and seems to have the talent to go with the fame. If you also love seeing him shooting out quick quips as fast as he can shoot out his webs, he's soon going to hit the screens again for Spider-man: Homecoming.

Overall...

Overall it was quite a fantastic night. There were a few odd situations here and there, but being mostly unplanned itself, that's how it goes at times. Not to mention the prince of comb-overs (Prince Harry) managed to make a joke so awkward, people were left confused if he was attempting his first failed comedic stand-up. But aside than that and Casey Affleck's serious case of the mumbles, it was great to see these brilliantly talented actors outside their comfort zones and at their best.
